When you hear the word "crisps" in a food context, you probably think of the sometimes discredited version of the calorie-rich potato crisps. But why not try something new? There are over 2.000 different apple varieties in the UK. Well-known varieties that you have certainly come across in the supermarket include "Pink Lady", "Braeburn" and the "Gala" and "Jonagold" groups. Within the UK, apple cultivation is largely limited to the South of England in Kent, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Essey . In addition to freeze-drying, the so-called drying process is usually used for apple chips. With this, probably the oldest method of preservation, food can be gently dried in the air. In this context, automatic dehydrators are usually used, which work in a similar way to conventional convection ovens, only with lower temperatures of 35 °C to 70 °C. Vitamins and minerals are preserved during the drying process.
